Sperrin Shatters Sullivan’s Dreams

With the half term break over,  a Sperrin side went into their first 3rd XV schools cup game with little preparation. However, it was the experienced heads of Nageen Chada, David Evans, Padraig Totten and Ulster Under 18 Club Player Charlie Clarke at the forefront of this fantastic win.  The first half of the game, Sperrin enjoyed a lot of the possession with Sullivan posing lots of threat out wide. The Sperrin wall did not break and the forwards through the determined hard work of Jack Leacock and Matthew Luke punched hole after hole in the Sullivan defence. The Sperrin team were forced under a lot of pressure midway through the half due to ill-discipline at ruck costing the team to give away too many needless penalties.  The pressure weighed too much and Sullivan scored only after tremendous last ditch tackling from the forwards lead by David Evans. However, this did not deter from the Sperrin passion and immediately we gained yards pressing into the Sullivan 22 metre line. A silky break from Stefan Gabidion-Lyttle gave Sperrin the front foot momentum and this inevitably lead to Sperrin working tirelessly to score but Sullivan’s defence line was strong. With that, the Sperrin pack although inexperienced made yard after yard until an unfortunate knock-on gave Sullivan the scrum. But Sperrin finished the first half on Sullivan’s try line.

Best wishes to our own Maria McAllister as she takes the lead role in The Suppliant Woman at the Grand Opera House, Belfast this weekend. The shows are sold out and we're sure that audiences will love the performance. Well done Maria!

A massive well done to our U16 Rugby Team who won today's Pollock Cup Rugby Blitz. Congratulations also go to Year 9 pupils who won their Blitz on Monday. Success is in the air!

Year 12 Students from Sperrin Integrated College were privileged to part of ‘Amazing the Space’, an event organised by Co-operation Ireland marking UN Peace Day attended by over 3500 other school children from across Northern Ireland. Our own Year 14 student, Clodagh McCullough took a leading role in the event with her mesmerizing singing abilities wowing the enormous crowd. The audience grew in the evening as Clodagh’s performance featured both on BBCNewsline and UTV Northern Ireland. We’re incredibly proud of her and our other contributing students Charlie Clarke and Maria McAllister who filmed ‘Peace Pledges’ that were shown at the event.
